Wollongong and Illawarra Film Environment


Based at University of Wollongong, Illawarra Film Society is a not-for-profit group which celebrates “the pleasure of seeing independent and arthouse films on the big screen and in the company of others.” This group demonstrates a section of the Wollongong audience.


This is Wollongong City Council’s launch pad for their recent and ongoing attempt to reinvigorate the cultural atmosphere of the region. Take a look at the Cultural Plan for an overview of their intent.


Describing themselves as  “boutique” film production company, Way Ward Films. Both graduates of University of Wollongong, these producers offer an alternative film production experience, including both pre- and post-production.


Tourism and the Illawarra film scene is combined in this event page for the Sydney Film Festival ‘Travelling Film Festival’; this page offers a snapshot of the existing audience and experience of film in the Illawarra.
